Aroma Rice Cookers Help FAQ

Quick Answers to Common Questions

Why is my rice cooker spitting or spewing water?

If your rice cooker is spewing water, there’s probably too much of it. Make sure you’re following the rice to water ratio listed in your Aroma rice cooker manual. (Need a replacement copy? Find it here.)

Aroma’s water line markings inside the pot are the easiest way to know you’re doing it right: use the rice measuring cup and add rice first, then fill the pot with water up to the matching line.

For example: 2 cups of rice, fill to line 2. 4 cups of rice, fill to line 4. Simple!

Why is my rice cooker bubbling?

It’s normal for rice cookers to bubble a little, but it shouldn’t be bubbling over. If you’re seeing a lot of foam and bubbly overflow, that’s likely caused by excess starch. And it’s an easy fix! Before cooking, rinse your rice in a bowl or colander. Add cold water, swish the rice around, then drain the cloudy water. Repeat the process several times until the water runs clear—this helps remove excess starch and prevent bubbling over.

Why is my rice cooker overflowing?

Rice cooker overflow can happen for several reasons: you overfilled the pot, you added too much water, or the steam vent is clogged and needs to be cleaned. Check your Aroma rice cooker manual for the correct rice to water ratio and the total capacity of your rice cooker.

Remember: rice doubles in size while it cooks, so measurements are based on how much raw rice you put in, not how much you plan to serve. Always use the rice measuring cup (or a 3/4 US cup) and add rice to the pot first, then fill with water to the corresponding line.

Why is my rice cooker popping or clicking?

Occasional clicking sounds are normal, but there are still things you can troubleshoot. Make sure the heating element is clean and dry before turning your rice cooker on. Also, adjust the pot so that it’s aligned correctly and sitting flat on the heater.

Why is my rice cooker turning off early?

If your rice cooker switches to Warm too soon, you’re probably cooking too much rice or not using enough water. Every rice cooker has a maximum capacity, which you can see listed in your Aroma rice cooker manual, and it’s marked inside the pot with a water line. Don’t forget to use the 180mL rice measuring cup (or a 3/4 US cup, if you’ve lost yours).

Why is my rice cooker taking so long?

Rice cooker not cooking at all? Start by checking the lid to make sure it’s closed properly to build up steam. The rice cooker also needs enough weight on the inner plate to start the cooking process, so make sure you’ve added enough rice and water. Your Aroma rice cooker manual lists the minimum and maximum capacity, which also matches the water line markings inside your pot.

Why is my rice cooker timer going up?

Aroma rice cookers use moisture sensors to track and automate the cooking process, so the wrong rice to water ratio can cause problems – specifically too much water. The timer might also adjust and add time if you’re cooking brown rice or wild rice on white rice mode, because the extra bran layer takes more time to cook.

This blog can help you add the right amount of water and set your own timer for better planning.
