Ingredients

FOR THE DUMPLING DOUGH

  • 2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup carrot juice
  • 1/4 cup spinach juice
  • 1/4 cup beet juice
  • 1/4 cup turmeric juice

FOR THE FILLING

  • 1/3 lb ground pork
  • 2/3 cup cabbage, minced
  • 1 egg
  • 2 scallions, chopped
  • 1 tbsp ginger, minced
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Directions

  1. Start by preparing the dough: Divide 2 cups of flour into 4 equal portions of 1/2 cup each, placing them into separate bowls. Gradually add different fruit or vegetable juices to each bowl of flour. Stop adding juice just before the mixture becomes fully dough-like. The consistency of the dumpling dough should be drier than regular dough.
  2. Wrap each portion of dough in plastic wrap and allow it to rest for at least 15 minutes, or up to 2 hours.
  3. As the dough rests, prepare the filling: Combine all the filling ingredients in a large bowl and mix well.
  4. Once the dough has rested, take each colored portion of dough and divide it into 6 equal parts.
  5. Lightly flour your work surface and rolling pin. Roll out each portion of dough into even, flat circles approximately the size of your palm.
  6. Place a tablespoon of the prepared filling in the center of each dough circle.
  7. Fold the circle in half over the filling, creating a half-moon shape. Gently squeeze the top edge of the dumpling to seal it.
  8. Hold one end of the dumpling between your thumb and index finger and use your other hand to pinch and seal the edges, repeating on the other side. Check the dumpling for any openings and pinch them shut.
  9. Repeat the process with the remaining portions of dough and filling.
  10. Place 8 dumplings in the steam tray of the rice cooker. Pour 2 cups of water into the inner pot.
  11. Set the Steam function on the rice cooker for 15 minutes to cook the dumplings. Repeat this steaming process until all the dumplings have been cooked.
  12. Once cooked, carefully remove the dumplings from the steam tray and serve them hot. Enjoy your colorful and flavorful homemade dumplings!
