Apple Onion Grill Cheese

  • 2 slices sourdough bread
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1⁄3 cup yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 tsp fresh thyme, chopped
  • 1 tsp fresh sage, chopped
  • 1 pinch crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1⁄3 cup apple cider
  • 1⁄3 cup gouda, shredded
  • 2 slices prosciutto
  • 1 honeycrisp apple, thinly sliced


  1. Preheat Grillet® to 350°F.
  2. Butter both slices of bread on one side.
  3. Melt remaining butter in pan and add onion to sauté for 3 minutes, or until softened
  4. Add thyme, sage, red pepper flakes, and salt, stirring well until aromatic.
  5. Season with salt and pour in apple cider, then cook until most of the liquid has evaporated, stirring frequently.
  6. Transfer grilled onion to a bowl, wipe the pan clean, and increase heat to 375°F.
  7. Place one piece of bread on the grill, buttered side down, then top with cheese, grilled onion, prosciutto, sliced apple, and another slide of bread, buttered side up.
  8. Grill for 3 minutes, flip, and grill for another 3 minutes. Serve hot.
