Comforting One-pot Beef & Sweet Onion Rice Skillet

  • 1/2 large yellow onion, cubed
  • 1/2 lb. ground beef
  • 1 tsp garlic, minced
  • 1 cup white rice, uncooked
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 1/2 cup frozen peas
  • 1/2 cup Gruyére cheese, shredded


  1. Preheat using the Sauté-then-Simmer (STS) function.
  2. Add ground beef, breaking it up with a spoon, and sauté until it turns pink.
  3. Incorporate cubed onion and minced garlic, cooking until golden brown and caramelized.
  4. Add rice, water, and season with salt and pepper. Cover and cook until the cycle is complete.
  5. Fluff the rice and beef mixture with a spoon, then gently fold in the shredded Gruyère cheese and peas until well combined.
  6. Keep warm for an additional 10 minutes.
