How Long Does It Take in an Aroma Rice Cooker?

You asked… “How long does the Aroma rice cooker take?” We hear this question all the time!

The exact time depends on a few different factors, including your rice cooker style, rice variety, and rice-to-water ratio. You can also cook rice on the stove, but that’s tricky and time-consuming to get right.

Aroma rice cookers are easy to use and super efficient, so you can cook two cups of perfect, fluffy white rice in just 20 to 30 minutes.

The wrong rice-to-water ratio can dramatically increase the amount of time it takes to cook. In order to make an accurate time prediction and get dinner on the table faster, follow these tips for measuring rice.

Start with the BPA-free plastic measuring cup that comes with your Aroma rice cooker – it’s approximately ¾ of a standard American cup. Fill it up with dry rice and level off the top.

Look inside your Aroma rice cooker pot – do you see line markings on the inside? These lines are specially designed to take the guesswork out of measuring.

Pour in the rice first, then add water up to the corresponding line. 2 cups of rice, fill to line 2. 4 cups of rice, fill to line 4. Simple!

Rice doubles in size while cooking, so if you start with 2 cups of uncooked rice, you’ll have 4 cups of fluffy, cooked rice to serve.

White rice – this is the most common rice cooker setting.

2 cups | 20 to 30 minutes

Brown rice – the extra bran layer on the outside needs more time to soften.

2 cups | 30 to 40 minutes

Jasmine and basmati rice – these aromatic, long-grain varieties cook fairly quickly.

2 cups | 15 to 25 minutes

Aroma rice cookers fit into two main categories: digital multicookers and classic pot-style appliances. Digital does more, pot-style cooks faster.

In a digital rice cooker, 2 cups of white rice will be ready in 27 to 32 minutes.

Digital rice cookers combine smart settings, recipe shortcuts, and delay timers. You might even see a countdown pop up on screen that lets you know when your rice is almost done cooking. With versatile presets and powerful heat, you can use this rice cooker as a true multicooker! Plus, Sensor Logic® technology automatically adjusts while cooking, so it’s more forgiving if you add too much or too little water.

In a pot-style rice cooker, 2 cups of white rice will be ready in 20 to 25 minutes.

Pot-style rice cookers are all about simplicity. Turn it on with a touch and watch the indicator light turn to ‘keep warm’ when it’s ready to eat. This classic rice cooker style is designed to do one thing exceptionally well – cook fluffy, perfect rice every time. (Of course, you can also get creative and cook a wide variety of rice cooker recipes, including soup, jambalaya, oatmeal, and pancakes.)

Just wait for the ‘keep warm’ light to come on! Aroma’s Sensor Logic® technology uses moisture and temperature sensors to control the cooking process, so you don’t have to.

The rice cooker starts by preheating and soaking your grains at the perfect temperature, then it increases heat to cook your rice near boiling. At the end, a final surge of heat removes extra moisture through steam, which helps to prevent gummy and gooey textures.

Whether you’re using a digital rice cooker or a pot-style appliance, there’s no need to stir, lift the lid, or set your own timer. Aroma rice cookers automatically switch to ‘keep warm’ when ready.

Rice cookers come in a variety of sizes, shapes, and styles, so it’s always best to check your product manual for specific instructions and features. Measure rice, add water, and see for yourself. Happy cooking!
