Common Questions & Helpful Answers

From basics to troubleshooting.

This is dependent on the kettle’s wattage, kettle size, starting water temperature (room temperature), water amount, and altitude.

The mesh filter must be in place for the kettle to properly operate. The filter’s purpose is to minimize both escaped steam as the kettle heats and suspended particles (mineral scale) from being poured out of the kettle while serving.

Regular use of the kettle can leave behind mineral deposits or cause white residue and scale build-up on the interior of the kettle. This residue is normal and will not negatively affect you or the unit but can impact the quality of prepared meals/drinks over time if not cleaned properly. Follow these steps to remove deposits and residue:

  1. Fill the kettle with 1 cup less of the maximum amount cups of water along with 3 tablespoons of baking soda OR 1 cup of white vinegar OR ½ cup of lemon juice.
  2. Bring contents to a boil by following the instructions in your product manual.
  3. Allow the mixture to soak in the kettle overnight.
  4. Empty contents and rinse out the kettle thoroughly with warm, soapy water.
  5. Fill the kettle with the maximum amount of water and bring to a boil. Once boiled, empty the kettle and dry thoroughly.
  6. Repeat as needed.

Your product’s model number is a 6-7 character code in the format of XXX-XXXX and can be found on the manufacturer’s sticker on the back side or bottom of your appliance. Electric kettle model numbers will begin with “AWK” followed by a hyphen and 3-4 numbers and/or letters.

Clean the interior of the kettle with a soft sponge and warm, soapy water. If your hand will not fit inside the kettle, swish warm, soapy water around in the interior of the kettle with the kettle lid closed. Rinse and drain any remaining soapy water from the kettle. With a damp cloth, gently wipe the exterior of the kettle–do not wipe electrical components as this may cause damage to the unit. Dry the interior and exterior of the kettle thoroughly before placing it back onto the power base.

The kettle should never be immersed in water to avoid electrical shock and irreversible damage to the unit. Some parts of the kettle are dishwasher safe, be sure to refer to your product manual to see what parts can safely be cleaned in the dishwasher.

The kettle will not automatically shut off if the kettle lid is open. Ensure the lid is securely closed and the kettle will automatically shut off once it reaches the input temperature or boiling temperature (dependent on the model). If the problem persists, contact our customer support team by calling 1-800-276-6286 or by sending us an email.

Your electric kettle should only be used to heat or boil water. We do not recommend steeping loose leaf teas or tea bags directly in your kettle as it may stain or damage the interior.

316 stainless steel is a type of surgical grade stainless steel that has been proven to hold up better to corrosion, water damage, and have a higher durability than the standard 304 stainless steel.

To find your kettle’s wattage, please refer to the bottom of your product’s packaging or the manufacturer’s sticker on the bottom of the unit.
